Happy New Year!

The Red Lodge area received about 5" of new snow Monday night; (thank heaven because the day had seen warm, wind and rain). As soon as the groomers get out there, the Nordic Center will be skiing great again.
If you haven't tried the snowshoe and dog-friendly ski area, give it a try. It has plowed parking, and is ungroomed (the entrance is west on Fox Road).

Sunday Morning

Curt has groomed 8-10 km for skate and classic skiing on the "near side" and conditions are very good. Temperatures were in the 20's with light wind Saturday, and Sunday could be similar. Come out and enjoy!

Saturday Morning

Saturday morning you will find fresh snow at the Nordic Center that has been rolled but not groomed nor set for tracks until someone can do so. Skiing is good. The wind has created some drifting on the roads and the parking entrance, so be careful, and do not park on the road where you will be causing a hazard for the snow plow as well as for yourself. For an adventure, try the snowshoe area (not groomed, no trail broken Friday).

The trails at Red Lodge Nordic Center are well-groomed and the temps are in the sane region, with wind this morning. Come out and ski in the shelter of the many aspen groves. And experience the new igloo!

First Day of Winter

Bob and Curt have groomed the "Near Side" and skating and track skiing are great. Temperatures are above zero! and snow conditions are variable. Our weather is threatening snow.

Our apologies for not having ski reports posted on our website for awhile. We've had some technical difficulties that are now being solved.
The weather, as you know, has also been difficult; so grooming has been happening but slowed due to the cold. And the wind changed everything at Red Lodge Nordic Center Wednesday. Today, Monday, we are starting the grooming process again, and hope to have good conditions for track and skate skiing for the holidays. There is good snow out there. Come anytime, and pray for mild temps with snow!
The West Fork Road is skiing well, with minimal base of 2" at the gate, but deeper as you go up the road. The Silver Run trails are rocky, as is the Lake Fork trail.

Red Lodge Nordic Center Opens

Enough snow fell last weekend to get the Nordic Center open, but warm temperatures this week are making skiing marginal. Cold temps are predicted for this weekend, so with a little snow, skiing could be great. The West Fork road is skiable but not groomed.

Thursday, December 4th

On Tuesday Red Lodge Nordic got over 7 inches of even snowcover.  Wednesday was spent breaking in the new snowmobile and doing a crude roll out of the latest trail scheme.  There are plenty of trail changes which revolve around the new parking area.

Last night another 4 inches fell and it is time to groom in earnest.

We are scrambling to get things like signs, money box, tiolets in order.  You are welcome to come for an early ski, I'll be the guy on the machine.

New Season!

BRTA has been preparing the Red Lodge Nordic Center for the upcoming season, and heading into December, it's still BROWN out there! Curt says we need about 6-8" of snow to pack and groom it, depending on temperature. Until then, some updates: we have a new snowmobile for grooming! We have some new signs ordered and are building a kiosk information center at the parking area. Speaking of which, we have moved the parking area 1/4 mile north on Smith Rd. to relieve some impact on Aspen Ridge Ranch's irrigated hay field. We will have some change of trails out of that parking, plus outhouses there and at the warming hut. We will be grooming the West Fork of Rock Creek Road again this season, until any Forest Service logging begins in there, maybe in the spring. We plan to again use 425-0698 for our Nordic Center snofone, with updated reports weekly. See you on the snow, Grant
