Red Lodge Nordic Center

Sunday

The Nordic Center received 3-4" of dry snow this morning and we groomed about 10 Km, including about 8 Km of set track. Temp's have been around O all day. The snow is cold and the skiing is great!

Saturday

As reported yesterday, the Nordic Center is groomed for skate and classic skiing with good classic conditions and mostly excellent skate conditions. Another trace of snow has fallen and the north wind is blowing about 10 mph. The temperature is about 5 above.
We have to announce that our SNOWSHOE & DOG-FRIENDLY SKI area is temporarily CLOSED. We will get back to you on the status next week.

Friday

Bob has groomed about 8 Km for track and skate skiing; skating is good, classic is fair. It was slightly above zero today with some pleasant brightness and a north breeze. The forecast is for similar weather, not much chance of snow for a couple of days.

ML King Day

We continue to have exceptionally warm days and nights in the Red Lodge area (47 this morning before dawn), which makes for pleasant outings, but we are unable to groom until we have cold nights. The snow is holding well at Red Lodge Nordic and there are lots of places to ski; some wide open terrain is showing grass and dirt; in or near the trees is fine.
Forest Service trails and roads have a good base for skiing. (The Lake Fork Road is not plowed and folks are getting stuck out there, so be careful).

West Fork

...and the West Fork Road was groomed from the gate to Cascade Campground (about 5 miles in) Friday morning. The forecast is for more warm weather the next few days. It's great spring skiing out there!

Great Friday Skiing

Great snow. Warm temperatures. No wind (so far). And great grooming have made for some very nice track and skate skiing at Red Lodge Nordic. The lower (Near Side) trails were all groomed Thursday, and lots of happy skiers showed up.
We plan to roll and groom the West Fork Road Friday morning.

Monday, Jan. 12

We have not groomed since Saturday. We currently have about 3-4" of new snow. The wind was significant yesterday afternoon, causing drifting across trails. We will provide an update when someone can groom this week.

Moon rising

This morning, Bob & Grant found a window of two hours to groom some skating lanes between warm temperature...about 8 Km. About 1-2 Km of tracks were set, but the temperatures and icey conditions weren't favorable. Some good skiing where groomed. Hopefully we will have enough cold snow to groom some more Saturday for the Moonlight Skiing at 6:00 pm. Join us then for hot dogs, bring your dessert to share and your hot drink and your utensils and headlamp.

West Fork

The West Fork Road was rolled from the gate at Timbercrest to the State Land, about three miles in. The snow is packed for the first mile, and gets softer and deeper farther in. It is very sweet.
Remember, all  forms of recreation are allowed on this road by the Forest Service in winter except wheeled vehicles. Please respect each others' use.

Saturday

Curt has groomed 12 K of classic track, and 8 K of skate on 10-12" of fresh snow and it's a bluebird day! Temperatures are cool, around 15 F.
