The Stillwater River is fishing great! Flows are still high for this time of year and wade fishing is tough. You cannot cross the river in most places yet. Float fishing has been red hot! Nymphing is producing well in the morning. The dry fly bite starts about 2 pm. Hoppers are starting to work, but a #10 stimulator or madam x is your best bet. Prince nymphs and pheasant tails fished under the dry fly are deadly.
The Yellowstone River is still very high and off color. Fish are being taken on nymphs and streamers. Deep nymphing with stone fly patterns like a girdle bug or bitch creek and a worm is taking fish in the big, deep corners.
Rock Creek is marginally fishable. Flows are high, so wade with care. Stimulators, small hoppers and elk hair caddis are your best bet for dry flies. Any bead head nymph will work. Small streamers are also a good choice. Try an olive wooly bugger swinging down and across.
The mountain lakes are fishing well. For dry flies, try an Adams or yellow humpy, # 14. Black streamers are also a good bet. Tie on a #14 prince nymph behind your streamer to increase your catch.
